Pants on fire. I promised a full post the morning after my last one and here we are a week later...whoops!
So, let's jump right into the Lily update.
Food: Lily's love of Cheerios has turned into an obsession. She only has to catch a glimpse of that big yellow box and you can kiss the spoon feeding goodbye. She wants her Cheerios and she wants them now. Other finger foods may pacify her for a bit, but her little eyes will continue to survey the room for the Cheerios box as she begrudgingly feeds herself the peas on her tray.
In other food news, Lily's finger food horizons are expanding. She still likes all her regular eats (cheese, carrots, etc.) but she now eats bits of our food, too - just the healthy stuff. I was pleased to find she loves cooked broccoli.
I feel like we need to start integrating more finger foods and less purees as she seems to be getting less and less patient with the spoon feeding but isn't ready to use a spoon herself just yet. About midway through her puree she starts getting frustrated and clearly would rather be feeding herself. This presents a challenge for me. When I get home with Lily after work it's usually about 5:45. She is typically very ready for dinner around 6. This gives me 15 minutes to get something ready for her. Purees fit perfectly into that schedule. Open, pour, feed.
I am very excited that my girl is so eager to eat what we eat, but it means somehow having real food ready at 6 o'clock every night. Right now, she's been eating things that are already quickly available: cut up cheese, rise canned pintos, thaw frozen peas...you get the idea. But meals are a different story. Let's just say it's not uncommon for me to have a bowl of oatmeal or a fried egg sandwich for dinner during the week. I like to cook and do miss having real meals during the week. It's just so hard to find the time and energy.

Motor skills: Lily recently got a push toy as you saw in
the previous post and she loves it. She took to it immediately. We finally have a use for the awkwardly large empty space adjacent to our living room that we dubbed the ballroom. It's now Lily's push toy space, plenty of room for her to zoom around and perfect her walking skills. Her pincher grasp is also pretty good now but she still likes to eat by the fist-full sometimes.
Babbling: She has become much more verbal in the past few weeks. Her babbling sounds more like talking than ever before with plenty of inflection. No hand gestures yet, but she really seems to be communicating in her own way. Super cute. She says momma and dada but still somewhat indiscriminately. I think she knows what she's saying and what it means, but there's still no eye contact when she says either word so I cannot be sure. She also said bye along with putting her hand up as I left daycare one day, but she hasn't done it again since then so who knows what that was all about.
In general, she is just growing up! Starting to look less and less like a baby and more like a little girl.
