Lily Crawls

Lily now crawls! Ironically, she chose the week she stayed home sick (this week) to finally master this skill. She hasn't let a little pink eye and a cold stop her from getting better and better at it each day. Here's a little video from this morning:



Just because...

28

Last weekend I celebrated my 28th birthday. It's hard to believe I am that old...not that I really think 28 is old, at all. It's just, I keep forgetting how close I am to 30 and what my age is relative to other adults, namely actors and celebrities.

Just the other night I was telling Kevin that I was surprised to find out two of the actresses from a sitcom called Happy Endings are our age. He asked: Well how old did you think they were? My response: I don't know, I thought they'd be closer to 30. He just stared at me for a minute until the light bulb went on.

Anyhoo, here are a few shots from my birthday. My mom, Dee, Ashely and Gabe all came to visit Lily me for my birthday :)

Baby Dishes

This is the chore we lovingly refer to as baby dishes. It's the never-ending chore...and this is a small batch.

8 Months Old

Yesterday marked 8 months of Lily!

This has been an eventful week for Lily. As you saw in the previous post, she has started to pull up on things like her toy box. She spent this week having fun with Granny and Grampy Wood!



Other developments:

- She is in constant motion during playtime. She's still not crawling, but she manages to get around with a combination of sitting, rotating, rolling, scooting and handstands.
- She babbles like crazy. It's as if she's talking to her toys...perhaps she is :)
- When she's had enough food she shakes her head "no."
- She has developed a tiny bit of stranger anxiety. After about 30 minutes of time with both the new person and me or Kevin, she's good to go.
- Lily now reaches up as we stoop down to get her from her crib or the floor.

Another fourth and a few firsts

Happy 4th of July everyone! Today we celebrate 235 years of America's independence. Texas is so dry right now that many counties are not even having city fireworks shows. Most of the Houston-area shows have been canceled, although I heard the downtown show is still on. Not that we are going...Lily will be fast asleep long before the show even starts. This will be the first year without fireworks (in some form) for me in a really long time.

It's also the first 4th of July we have actually spent here in Houston. We typically go to Comfort, TX for a big family get-together every year, but Kevin is on call this weekend. So instead of a road trip to central Texas, we got together with a bunch of friends at the neighborhood pool and grilled hotdogs and burgers...can't get much more American than that.

Other than this being our first fourth in H-town, this Independence Day also marks another first. Lily took her very first dip in the pool! She love, loved it! I sort of figured she would since she loves her bath time, but you just never know.

Things I want to remember about today/this weekend:

- Watching Lily flutter her feet like a pro in the pool
- Finding out that some good friends of ours are expecting their first baby!
- Watching Lily pull herself up to peek inside her toy box
- Lily's new love of looking out the back door windows into the yard
- How so darn cute Lily looks in her first swimsuit
- My post-pregnancy swimsuit debut, feeling only slightly more self-conscious than I always do in a suit - Note: a baby on the hip makes a great tummy cover
- Watching Lily bring her hands together...well her fingers really...in an attempt to clap for the first time
