The Grody Face

Lily makes the funniest face when she doesn't like whatever food was put into her mouth. In this case it was green beans. She'll still eat it, but she'll also let you know exactly what she thinks of it before swallowing. She opens her mouth, does this tiny gag sound and blinks her eyes. It's hard to get her to do it on camera, so this is the best we could get. She does it twice, so keep watching to the end.

That's from about a week ago. She's now in a high chair...movin' on up! I just bought it this weekend, and she seems to like it much more than the Bumbo. She loves banging on the tray, and I think it's more comfortable for her.

Back to blue

Quick note.

No you're not crazy. I have changed the blog template again. I liked the last one (a green design by blogger), but the green showed up different on various computers. Some were a heinous shade of neon green which made reading somewhat of a challenge as my retinas were burning.

So, I'm still using one of the new blogger templates (Simple), but I've gone back to trusty ol' blue.

Morning routines

Since my return to work after having Lily, my weekday mornings have changed dramatically. Not that I was surprised by this; I'd heard tell this tends to happen. The evenings and weekends have changed as well, to be sure, but this post will focus on the 180 my cherished morning routine (I'm a creature of habit to say the least) experienced.

I'll compare and contrast, language arts-style.

Before: Wake up fairly alert around 5:30 am.
Now: Struggle to pull myself out of bed by 6:00 am.

Before: Shower - I was always a morning shower person.
Now: Showered the night before - no time for morning showers now.

Before: Do hair and makeup, maybe even straighten it if running ahead of schedule.
Now: Just deal with whatever my hair decided to do while it dried overnight and apply makeup as quietly as possible. Lily up early = routine in the toilet.

Before: Pick out something to wear, iron if necessary.
Now: Iron? Haha.

Before: Leisurely breakfast including at least a full mug of the good stuff and some solid facebook time.
Now: This is about the time Lily wakes up. Breakfast will have to wait. Also happens to be my very favorite time of the day. Lily is waiting in her crib, smiling when I come in, so happy to see me. We lay down for her morning feeding...I will miss this so much when it's gone.

Before: Still enjoying breakfast. Maybe getting some bills paid, etc.
Now: Mommy's breakfast time. Lily's play time. She's plopped in front of me on the floor with her toys while I balance breakfast and pumping whatever she didn't eat...I'm a machine when it comes to this.

Side note: I find it terribly ironic that I need caffeine now more than ever and yet I find myself unable to finish a full mug of coffee before leaving the house. If I do, it's probably been reheated four times before I finish it.

Before: I don't have anything to put here, because I was probably still piddling around the house before it was time to go. I would even occasionally water the yard and plants in the AM. I know! I now wonder to myself, who has that kind of time?
Now: This is go time for me. I squeeze a whole lot into these last 15 or 20 minutes. I brush my teeth, get dressed, change Lily, give her the nasty Poly-Vi-Sol she seems to actually kind of like, pack my lunch, pack her bottles, pack her solids...assuming I didn't fall asleep the night before without getting these ready for the next day, clean the baby megaphones (thank you Tina Fey for your comic genius), stock the pumping bag, toss the cat outside, strap her in the car seat, load the car with an extended vacation's worth of bags and we're off!

Oy. But I love it.

7 Months Old

Lily is 7 months old today! Our bumblebee is a chatty little girl these days. Her daycare teacher told me when I picked her up today that she was babbling back and forth with Mai (another baby in her class) while they hung out in the Exersaucers. She also does both high-pitched and low-pitched motor sounds...let me tell you, it's super stinkin' cute. She smiles all the time and is just the happiest little girl.

New Tricks

Lily has been up to a lot in her seventh month. Since she turned 6 months old, we have built solids into her eating routine. She now enjoys cereal, oatmeal, squash, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, apricots and bananas along with her milk. She hasn't fully rejected any food yet and doesn't (at this point) seem to be a picky eater. She actually seems to prefer her veggies over fruits and cereals - peas and carrots being particular favorites. I'm fine with that!



The two videos posted below are almost identical in content. I am posting both simply because I could not choose between them :)

In them you will see a few new tricks Lily's debuted in the past few weeks. We have:
~ The motor sound which comes with more drool than ever
~ Babbling
~ An even higher quad-pod stance
~ Two knees down
~ A hip tuck which will eventually turn into her transition from tummy to sitting position





Lily has also, in a matter of one week, become quite good at sitting on her own. This is one of my very favorite skills of hers. I have often thought - although she's always been a happy baby - that she'd be so much happier once able to sit up, look around and play with all the toys surrounding her. I do believe I was right!
